Cost Of Living In Ecuador
Get the full breakdown on the cost of living in Ecuador in 2025. This article will primarily focus on the price of living in Quito. This article will be updated along the way as I experience new things, but here are the current costs of living in downtown Quito near Parque La Carolina.
Apartment Rental In Quito
If you are living in the city, this will probably be your biggest monthly expense. The cost of my apartment rental is $700 USD per month (internet & tv are extra).
This cost can get you a very nice place to stay with onsite security guards as well as some amenities in the building. For example, there is a BBQ area for everyone to share, a workout area with treadmills, and a pool.
Cost Of Food And Groceries In Ecuador
This one I will need to come back to so I can provide a better estimate. I generally run into a grocery store 2-3 times per week and only grab what I need and spend various amounts each time. Stay tuned!
Cost Of Transportation In Ecuador
The cost of getting around in the city is extremely affordable for everyone! When I visited for the first time, the price for an Uber/taxi actually blew my mind on a couple of occasions.
The first occasion was when I needed a ride home from the grocery store. I had a bunch of bags so I flagged down a cab. I was not super far away but the cost was just over $1.00.
The second occasion was taking an Uber to get to and from Mitad Del Mundo. I don’t recall the exact distance but it took around 30 minutes each way and the total cost was around $25!
I do a ton of walking, but another highly affordable option is the subway and that costs around $.40 cents to ride.
These options are so much more affordable compared to Canada and the United States. Here are another couple quick examples. To get an Uber to Vancouver International Airport will cost you between $60-80 CAD depending where you are coming from. Last year, I had a really long layover in Chicago (22 hours) so I decided to go to the Field Museum to kill some time. The Uber rides were $60 + USD each way.
Cost Of Health Insurance In Ecuador
If you plan on staying in Ecuador for an extended period of time it is mandatory that you have health insurance. My insurance is through Sweaden Seguros and the coverage is up to $10,000 USD per event with a deductible of $150 and costs $54.11 per month.
For general coverage, here is what is included in the plan.
- Medical consultations
- Hospitalization
- Ambulance services
- Surgical interventions
- Physiotherapy
- Laboratory tests
- Outpatient treatments
